Our Austin eye doctor at Westlake Hills Vision Center offers treatment options for dry eye, an uncomfortable condition that occurs when the tear ducts don't produce enough lubrication. If you suffer from dry eyes, our optometry team has some helpful tips for treating and managing your symptoms.
Dry air can wreak havoc on your eyes, so consider installing a humidifier in your home to increase air moisture. If your work space is dry, there are even small, portable humidifiers you can bring to the office.
Cigarette smoke can seriously irritate dry eyes, so avoid it at all costs. If you're a smoker, this is yet another compelling reason to quit!
You can buy eye drops at any grocery store or pharmacy without a prescription. Try picking some up and see how they work for you. There are many different formulas to choose from, so it may require some trial and error before you find the one that works best for you.
Eye strain caused by spending too much time in front of a computer (or other) screen can further irritate dry eyes, so give yourself a break. Ideally, you should be taking a break from the screen every 20 minutes. During this time, focus your eyes on an object about 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds. This is a great exercise to reduce eye strain.
If all else fails, don't hesitate to see our optometrist. We have a variety of treatment options for dry eyes at our disposal, including prescription eye drops to help you find relief.
If you're suffering from dry eye or another eye condition, schedule an appointment with our Austin optometrist today by calling Westlake Hills Vision Center today. We'll do our best to work with your busy schedule.
