If you're thinking about making the switch to contact lenses, we strongly encourage you to schedule a contact lens exam with our Austin eye doctor. Here at Westlake Hills Vision Center, Dr. Adam Drees is here to provide you with the guidance and expertise you need when making the transition to contact lenses. We also carry a wide range of contact lens types and brands in our office, including custom-made contacts to suit your unique needs and lifestyle.
So, what exactly is a contact lens exam and why is having one so important? Generally, a contact lens exam is focused on evaluating the health of your eyes and making sure that you're a viable candidate for contact lenses. For example, if you have certain eye or vision conditions (such as astigmatism), you may not be able to wear traditional contact lenses due to physical abnormalities of the eye. Instead, we may need to fit you for a pair of specialty lenses. By having a contact lens exam done in our office, you can ensure that your transition from traditional glasses to contact lenses goes as smoothly as possible. You can also save money by buying the right type of contact lenses the first time around, rather than going with the "trial and error" method of trying several different brands until you finally find one that works for you.
When you come in for your contact lens exam, you'll first meet with Dr. Drees. He will take some time to ask you questions about your eye and vision health, as well as answer any questions or concerns you may have about making the switch to contact lenses. From there, he will conduct vision testing to determine the specific level of vision correction that you need as well as making note of any factors that may indicate the need for specialty contact lenses. Next, our team will discuss your options for contact lenses and give you their specific recommendations. These will be based on the findings of your exam as well as your lifestyle and preferences. For example, if the idea of having to clean your contacts daily seems like too much work for you, then we may recommend a daily disposable lens to better suit your preferences.
At the end of your appointment, we can order your contact lenses for you and provide you with some useful tips and instructions on not only caring for them, but inserting them and removing them from your eyes as well. This can take some getting used to, so keep in mind that our team is always here to help if needed.
We offer a wide range of specialty and even custom-made contact lenses to help you achieve a comfortable fit. Some examples of the specialty types of lenses we carry include:
Our custom contact lenses are also a popular option, especially among those who would like to be able to transform their eye color or would like to camouflage any cosmetic irregularities in the eye itself.
