If you're considering LASIK eye surgery for vision correction, then the first step is to schedule a consultation with our Austin eye doctor. Here at Westlake Hills Vision Center, we specialize in pre- and post-operative care for LASIK patients, as well as patient referrals. Whether you're been wondering if LASIK is right for you or are simply interested in learning more about the procedure, our experienced eye care team is here for you.
We generally begin with a consultation, which is performed by our very own Dr. Drees here in our office. The purpose of this consultation is to answer any questions you may have about LASIK and what to expect, as well as perform an evaluation to determine whether or not you're a viable candidate for LASIK. We typically recommend you receive a corrective vision prescription that has not changed within the past year to be considered viable for the procedure. As part of your consultation, we will also take the time to review your patient history and answer any questions you may have.
If you do turn out to be a good candidate for LASIK, we can then refer you to a trusted area LASIK surgeon. After your procedure, we will work closely with your surgeon to provide the best level of post-operative care. These follow-up appointments usually begin the day after your surgery and will continue for the next several months. The purpose of this post-operative care is to monitor your eye health and make sure your corneal flaps are healing properly so that you can get the most out of your LASIK procedure. Even once everything is healed and looks good, it is best to visit us annually for an evaluation of the long-term results.
There are countless reasons to consider LASIK if you have less-than-perfect vision. The most common reason people choose to have LASIK done is to enjoy the freedom that comes with not having to rely on eyeglasses or contact lenses to see clearly. Many LASIK patients find they are able to stop wearing corrective eyewear altogether. This is especially ideal for active people, such as athletes, but it's beneficial for anybody who is tired of wearing glasses or contacts. And while there is no guarantee that the results of LASIK will last forever, many patients enjoy their results for many decades. Not to mention, advancements in medical technology have made LASIK a very safe and painless procedure for vision correction.
