Who can wear scleral lenses? Well the answer is everyone! There are however some patients who only have scleral lenses as an option to see better. These are often patients that are post RK, LASIK or have a corneal condition known as Keratoconus. For these patients these lenses can be life changing. Sometimes these patients experience a fluctuation in vision throughout the day and a scleral lens will eliminate that. Instead of trying to use 3 different pairs of glasses their vision is stable.
In these lenses we focus on obtaining great distance vision but the lenses also have a near portion. Though we usually can’t get perfect near vision, we are able to get good enough vision so patients do not have to put on glasses every time they look at things up close.
Are you worried about how they would work with dry eyes? Scleral lenses are also recommended for patients with dry eyes. They are actually one of the recommended treatments, so no worries there.
Worried about comfort? They are are actually one of the most comfortable lens options available.
