Orthokeratology (Ortho K), Custom GP lenses
We are proud to introduce Myopia Management into our office!
Who is it for?
It’s for any growing child that is nearsighted
What is Myopia Management
It is a special program we are introducing that on average can reduce near sightedness progression by about 50%. We use either Orthokeratology (Ortho K also sometimes called CRT) or MiSight contact lenses. Read below for more details of each option. The easy explanation is it involves committing to wear a specially designed contact lens and checking in at specified intervals.
Give your child the best future possible by not having to struggle with continually increasing nearsightedness. Schedule your an evaluation today to see if you are a good candidate. You can call/ text 512-651-5186 or email appointment@westlakehillsvision.com
The picture below gives you an idea how much having a prescription can effect how a child sees when they are uncorrected.
Orthokeratology is where you wear a gas permeable (GP) lens at night and it reshapes the front of your eye. It molds the eye into a different shape to correct a patient’s prescription.
This treatment is used in children to slow the progression of their near-sightedness (myopia).
In adults we can use this treatment as well to correct near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and presbyopia. We use WAVE software to create lenses that will let us treat a large range of prescriptions. If you are post surgery (i.e. LASIK, RK or Keratoconic) this is not a treatment option for you.
Text us at 512-651-5186 to schedule an ortho K consult to see if you are a candidate.
If you are post-LASIK, RK, or have Keratoconus you have probably noticed that traditional contact lens options don’t always work. The front of your eye is no longer a regular surface. Soft contact lenses mold like plastic wrap to the front of the eye and if that front is irregular they don’t sit where they should and often you get large amounts of distortion.
We have several options for this. One option is a corneal gas permeable (GP) lens. We would design this lens with WAVE software. This is a software that lets us take a custom design a lens for that irregular front surface. We can control all the parameters. You can think of it as a tailored suit as opposed to a ready to wear one off the rack.
Especially for our patients that are now struggling with up close this is a great option. Gas permeable lenses give some of the best quality of vision of any type of visual correction.
Corneal gas permeable lenses sit on the front of the eye.
For our really irregular corneas sometimes we move to a scleral lens. This is a lens that vaults the front surface of the eye to create a new corneal surface for you, getting rid of all that irregularity.
If you think this might be an option for you call/text us at 512-651-5186 or email appointment@westlakehillsvision.com
