Who wears Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses (RPGs)? Anyone who wears contacts can.
They typically don’t dry out and come in a wide range of prescriptions. For some patients RGPs represent their best visual option. They give superior clarity, especially in higher prescriptions when compared to soft contact lenses.
What’s the downside? They do have to be custom made and ordered. So a trial cannot be handed out the day of the visit in the office. They are also a hard plastic polymer that sits on the front of the eye so you definitely feel it. It can feel like a bit of sand in the eye for the first 2-3 weeks. The comfort and convenience aspect is usually the most difficult part.
